finding myself... (+ how you can find yourself)

Hello and welcome to or welcome back to the blog! This is odd posting on a Sunday (I’m currently at work) but the reason behind this is I’m working with the lovely Keeley on a post all about self-love and finding yourself. Once you have finished reading this post, go and check out Keeley’s post! She is a very talented and hard-working girl and deserves all the support! I will link her post and her blog site at the end of this post, along with her Instagram šŸ˜Š

Finding yourself is a process. It can’t just happen overnight. It takes time and effort and energy. I still believe I’m in the process, but I have a few things I have noticed I’ve done that have helped me to find more of who I am and what I love.

The first is to find things I am passionate about. For example, I’m a geek (I’ll happily admit that) and I do like working and education, so much so that I like writing about it on this blog, to help others. I love being productive and feel bad some days when I’m not as productive as I’d like to be. Another thing I’m passionate about is music, not particularly making music, but listening and dancing to it especially. For those of you who don’t know, I dance, I have done for 11 years and I have loved every minute. I will continue to learn, practice and choreograph at uni, and it is something I am already looking forward to.

As well as this, I have discovered things and this includes people that I have just cut out of my life. I often go through an unfollow spree on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, as well as removing old phone numbers of people I don’t talk to and those that don’t interest me on Snapchat. I can be brutal with this and will only follow the people I genuinely know and those accounts that inspire me, as it cuts off a lot of negativity and it creates inspiration while on social media, rather than boredom.

It is very freeing, and allows you to dedicate time to working on yourself, to inspire, and learn what makes you happy. As I said, it’s a long process, but I have some tips on how to start up with finding who you are, and what you want to do with life as you progress.

Firstly, you need to think about what you want in life. Ask yourself questions about what you want to do, where you want to be in 5 years’ time, and work out how you’re going to achieve this. The best way to do this is to set goals. For example, setting SMART goals is a way to enhance motivation and creates a path to achieving what you want! SMART stands for:

S pecific

M easurable

A chievable

R ealistic

T ime-Bound

By using this, you are able to create goals that you are able to achieve and progress with!

Second, you have to accept yourself, and recognise your own personal power. Confidence is definitely key with this, and there are so many ways you can build this up. I recommend reading Grace Kate’s post on practicing confidence! I will link it below šŸ˜Š You have to love who you are to find yourself!

Grace’s Post : http://gracexkate.com/10-easy-ways-to-practice-confidence/

The company you keep is also a key point in finding who you are. Find the people who make you happy, the ones who inspire you, the ones who motivate you to progress with your life. Understand the value of friendship and work out who makes you happy. Keep them close, you’ll appreciate it!

A key way of gaining confidence and finding yourself, one that may seem scary at first, is to get out of your comfort zone. By starting to ‘get out there’ you familiarise yourself with a wider variety of experiences and will feel so much better. For example, a big thing for me is travelling alone, and I don’t mean flying to other countries, but just getting trains to cities in the UK. It does make me nervous but I love the feeling when I do it!

Finally, do more of what makes you happy! Happiness is KEY šŸ˜Š Simply for me, this is food and music, as well as connecting with the people who make me smile. Even if you’re feeling down, do something that’ll cheer you up, I have done this and it really does help!

As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, go and check out Keeley’s blog post! She is super talented and dedicated šŸ˜ŠA big thank you to Keeley for working with me on this post! I hope everyone has a fabulous week; I will be back on Friday with a new post!
