how i edit my blog photos!

Happy Monday people! Welcome back or welcome to the blog! Recently I asked what people wanted to see on the blog in the future, and this was a post that was requested, and I have been very excited to share this! Despite being so excited, I think this will be very underwhelming as I actually don’t edit my photos lots. I like to keep my photos fairly authentic, as I feel like overly edited photos are too much.

To be the basic girl I am, I just use VSCO to edit. I find the free presets are enough for me to edit in the way I want to. I use the same edits on every photo to keep consistency through my blog photos (and Instagram to be fair). I am not going to share the exact numbers, as I do like the preset I have created for myself and would like to keep this original for my blog but I am happily going to share the edit icons I use! As well as this, I don’t keep the numbers the same every time, I do just play about with what works for me and the post I am editing photos for!

If I take this photo, which I used in my last blog post, this is the original:

I use the filter P5 on all of my photos: I just think it works well with my aesthetic, but I don’t usually have the strongest effect, usually I just have the bar half way, to create a photo that isn’t overly edited, but does have a tint to it.

After this I play about with the exposure and contrast, to make it a lot lighter and softer. These are the key two filters I like to use when editing a photo.

Next, I use saturation as once I have applied my exposure and contrast, my photos do look slightly duller than the original, so I edit the saturation to add a bit more colour into my photo.

Another filter I like to use is highlights: I can’t exactly explain why, but I just think it adds something to my photos!

Finally, I like to add the grain effect (although this changes fairly often, I can’t lie!) Sometimes I like to add a strong grain effect, but at the moment I am preferring a more subtle look, so will have a +3 or +4 effect applied. I think this adds to the vintage look that I try to go for, and I am loving it at the moment.

This is the final look for the photo:

Just to acknowledge the difference, here are some before and afters of photos from some of my most recent posts:

I hope you liked this little insight into how I edit my blog photos! I’m sorry it is a very short post, as I said I don’t actually have a strong edit/filter, so it is nothing special. Have the best week as always, and for anyone getting A-Level results this week (like myself), good luck, I’m sure you’ll smash it!

  1. I love how your photos turned out - especially the first one. We're pretty similar in terms of editing - I only really adjust the contrast and brightness and add a bit of grain to it. I may have to look into VCSO though it looks super useful! xx
