i'm taking a break...

Image
This post has been a while coming by the time I come to write it. As most of you know, I move to university in about 3 weeks , and I have a lot of prep to do, it is a big life change for me and I want to be prepared. When I start university, I don’t have teaching for about 3 weeks, which gives me time to get used to my new home technically for the year, explore the city but also get ahead on blogging. I have decided my way forward is to bulk write posts before I go and before teaching starts so that I have content to be producing over the next coming months. I do just want to say, please bear with me up until Christmas as I am unsure on how busy my schedule will be! My rough plan for now is 1 post per week, unsure on the day at this point but I will confirm on my Instagram (if you’re not following, I’ll link below!). Also, if you would like to see anything specifically, let me know on the comments! The next point I’d like to address is some research I did a few weeks back , I wa

teaching myself to be a pisces

Image
Star signs are a concept I have been interested in for quite a long time, and I am always interested in learning more about myself. I am a Pisces (as you can obviously see from the title), and I have been researching my sign very well, to see how much I compare to what has been researched. This post has been a long time in the making, as I did the research for this back in June! Whether you believe in star signs or not, this post will be an interesting read to say the least! Pisces is a water element and is the 12 th sign in the zodiac , from the 19 th February to the 20 th March. It is ruled by Neptune and Jupiter and they have the greatest compatibility with Virgo and Taurus . There are strong and weak traits that a Piscean can hold. Strong traits include: compassionate, artistic, intuitive, gentle, wise and musical. Personally, I can relate to some of these but not at all am I musical! I believe that no one fully relates to their star sign , but the majority of traits do ma

1 month until university...

Image
So, the countdown begins… I have just over a month until university . I am moving to Newcastle on the 26 th September, and I am extremely excited! There are obviously some nerves and a few worries but I am trying to put them behind me, but for the most part I am excited ! I am extremely lucky that I have an incredible group that I have become so close with over lockdown, and it makes me a lot more comfortable about making friends going into uni, a special mention to Jodie, Esta and Harry (I know you read these posts and I love you all for it), who have just made me look forward to university that much more! Needless to say, everyone in the group is incredible. I have also been lucky that I have been an admin for NCL applicants for about 6 months now, and it has been a pleasure getting to know people! As well as this, I have actually gone to meet a few people who I am spending the next year(s) with, and as this goes live, I’m meeting another one of my closest friends! Next, I am

new music friday: first impressions!

Image
Most people who know me know I am ALWAYS on the hunt for new music, so the New Music Friday playlist on Spotify really does me some favours! I had a look last Friday (the 14 th ) and picked out 10 songs, some by artists I have heard of, but some that I hadn’t (I just shuffled for this) and gave my review! The main point of this post is to highlight this feature if you don’t already know about it, but to also give my opinion on the songs! I have decided to so a very raw reaction to the songs, as I just want to be more real on the blog, and if I get hyped, I get VERY hyped!   midnight sky- miley cyrus first impression: a solid 8/10, loveee the slow section towards the end, a good badass bop as per, I’m a fan of her music in general and I do vibe well with the song   levitating- dua lipa ft madonna and missy elliott first impression: love the crossover, dua lipa is on it with her music right now, missy elliott’s rap SLAPSSSSSS, not the biggest fan of madonna tho, 7/10

a letter to my 16 y/o self... what i wish i'd known (collab with iridescent.photo.blog)

Hello and welcome back to the blog, or welcome if you are new! I’m here with another extra collab post, I have been working with Vivian and Sairah from iridescent.photo.blog to bring you this cross over collab! The girls have just finished secondary school and are about to start sixth form/college, and I have just finished sixth form, I got my A-Levels (literally yesterday as I’m writing this). So, I am writing a letter to my 16 year old self, of what I wish I’d known, and the girls will write a letter to their 18 year old selves, which they can refer back to when they are in my position! I will link all of their socials, as well as their blog and post down below! Dear Amelia, I know you’re petrified to start sixth form in a brand-new place, with so many new people, and with a dress code that you’re not so keen on! But I tell you now, you’re going to enjoy the 2 years (most of the time) and you actually really like the dress code once you put your own spin on it! The bigges

a little day out...

Image
So, since COVID regulations have been eased a little in the UK, I have been having more days out with my family, plus a solo trip to York to see a friend I am going to university with. Over these days I have been taking a lot of photos so this post is just a recent photo dump ! You are bound to have seen or will see these on my Instagram, which I will leave a link to at the bottom if you’re not already following! Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/bymillsx/   I hope you liked this little different post from me, loved just sharing some pictures on the blog! Are you into photography? Let me know in the comments! Also, if you have GCSE results this week, a massive good luck, I’m sure you’ll smash it! mills x

why i've started intermittent fasting...

Image
Hello everyone! Welcome to or welcome back to the blog, I’m back with another fitness related post, one that I have really wanted to write for a long time, but I wanted to learn more about the eating plan and actually do it for an extended period of time before writing about it . Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern (some refer to it as a diet but I am not a fan of this), where an individual fasts for an extended period of time, and then eats within a certain period of time. There are different types of intermittent fasting, but the most common method and the one I am doing at the moment is the 16:8 method . This involves fasting for 16 hours, and eating for 8. Typically, this fast occurs from 8pm in the evening to 12pm in the following afternoon. Within the fasting time, you can only drink water, black coffee or black tea (some milk is allowed but not excessive amounts). I would just like to add a little disclaimer : I am not doing this as a strict ‘diet’ as such, because

how i edit my blog photos!

Happy Monday people! Welcome back or welcome to the blog! Recently I asked what people wanted to see on the blog in the future, and this was a post that was requested, and I have been very excited to share this! Despite being so excited, I think this will be very underwhelming as I actually don’t edit my photos lots. I like to keep my photos fairly authentic, as I feel like overly edited photos are too much. To be the basic girl I am, I just use VSCO to edit. I find the free presets are enough for me to edit in the way I want to. I use the same edits on every photo to keep consistency through my blog photos (and Instagram to be fair). I am not going to share the exact numbers, as I do like the preset I have created for myself and would like to keep this original for my blog but I am happily going to share the edit icons I use! As well as this, I don’t keep the numbers the same every time, I do just play about with what works for me and the post I am editing photos for! If I take
